Increase your sales with printed newsletters
Our customers Unstuck Design have been sending a regular monthly printed newsletter to their customers and prospects for the last 8 months and seeing great success from it. As a web and print design agency they felt it would be an effective point of difference compared to other web agencies to communicate with customers via a tangible printed piece. It is actually a also a point of difference compared to many other businesses as the majority are either doing nothing at all or simply sending a regular email message instead. Using Bombouche they have been able to maximise automation to ensure the overhead of creating the newsletter is cost effective and quick, without any loss in the quality of finished product. They have selected a custom paper stock and have a data driven personalised envelope print too, yet the time from submission of print files to despatch of the printed newsletter is usually 36 hours or less.
The results of the regular mailings to Unstuck’s mail list have been two fold. It has acted as a very good way to re-ignite old customers who had laid dormant for a while and also been a way to communicate to current customers the other services available from Unstuck such as SEO, Adwords marketing, brochure design etc. Above all the publication is keeping Unstuck Design at the forefront of their customers minds and ensuring they are who the customer thinks of when considering any of the services they provide. It is working well and as well as improving relations with customers where previously communication was sparse, it is also generating new business and referrals.
We asked James Purves from Unstuck what goes into writing a successful newsletter and here is what he said:
“We’ve adapted and evolved the content of the newsletter each month and gained a lot of feedback on the articles that our customers enjoy the most. At first, our printed newsletter was very industry specific, trying to educate and help advise clients on all items relating to web design, brand identity and digital marketing. It became apparent that whilst keen to use our services, they are not particularly interested in reading about the how and whys of what we do such as the effect of the last algorithm updates by Google. “
“We will still retain a little bit of industry related content but the rest of the publication is filled up with fun, entertaining trivia and happenings at Unstuck, including behind the scenes moments, team backgrounds likes and dislikes and even jokes and recipes! We are careful to write about things that will interest our customers including events they might enjoy, providing any related advice that could be pertinent to them as business owners. We’ve also increased the number of images in the publication to break up the text content to make it more of a pick up and put down item that will hopefully lurk on peoples desks for a week or two. Form a marketing perspective we’ve found it works well to include a special promotion and also a referral/recommendation piece”
Compared to other marketing activities including email newsletters and social media we’ve found the monthly correspondence is a really good way to bond customer relations and have seen a big increase in further orders from existing customers and new orders from prospects. The newsletter also makes the ideal leave behind when prospecting as it is never out of date, and often contains something of interest to prompt conversation.
“Using Bombouche has automated the whole process to extent that we now just submit the artwork for both a variable data generated envelope design plus the design for the newsletter. We update the mail list and receive a digital proof prior the newsletter being printed and mailed to our list. It’s a no hassle solution that saves lots of in house time and works out far more cost effective. The printed result is important to us as a design agency and we’re delighted with the quality and consistency achieved by Bombouche each month.”
